The ERW economy: why Eco Rewards matter

Understand how ERW supports better reuse behavior on Hiiba, from starting balances to giving rewards and reservation fees.

ERW means Eco Reward. It is the small token economy inside Hiiba that helps the app reward useful giving and discourage low-quality engagement.

Every new member starts with ERW, so they can explore the marketplace without friction. Sending the first message in a new conversation uses a small amount of ERW. Reserving an item also uses ERW. These fees are not meant to make reuse expensive. They are meant to make actions intentional.

Without a commitment signal, free marketplaces can become noisy. Givers may receive many vague messages. Receivers may reserve items without planning pickup. Hiiba uses ERW to create a lightweight cost for attention, so members are more likely to message when they are serious and reserve when they can follow through.

The earning side is just as important. When a giver marks an item as given after real engagement, they can earn ERW. In the app architecture, balances are tracked off-chain in Supabase for speed, while the giving reward can also be settled on-chain through the reward engine. That design keeps everyday app interactions fast while preserving a real reward layer.

ERW also supports fairness. If a giver cancels a reservation or gives the item to someone else after a receiver already paid engagement fees, the app can refund those fees. The goal is to keep the reuse loop practical and transparent.

The economy is intentionally simple. Use ERW to show commitment. Earn ERW by giving items a second life. Build enough trust that useful things move faster from one home to another.
